This page will be dedicated to looking at the Planning and Zoning aspects of Mansfield. On the eve of embarking on developing our new Master Plan and addressing the folly of our past it is the position of the author that Mansfield has both the need and opportunity to make Mansfield a strong town.
The status of Mansfield as we enter 2019 justifies concern over our direction as a town. To understand my cynicism I offer the reader this. Mansfield is continuing the development trajectory it has been on for some time and this produces a chain reaction of events. This community is simply unprepared for and apparently unaware of what this actually means. The bottom line is captured with words such as unsustainable, insolvent, inequality and diminished. These are adjectives no citizen wants applied to their community.
September 2019 brings the Master Plan Committee Meeting. Over the summer stakeholders and consultants worked on the Phase I portion. This has coincided with the Beta Co. release of the TOD 2030 report. Together these two documents will serve as the foundation to the all important MP Update.
****The pandemic has hit locally and has hit us at our core. Not that Mansfield has been a pathogenic hotspot,I believe we’ve tallied 12 cases, but our democratic structures. Caught up in the response has been the blanket response to diminish the publics ability to properly engage the government. This has not only had a direct impact on the governed facing the government in the form of the Select Board and Planning Board but equally important it has hampered campaigning for contested elections, truly vetting the Master Plan Update thus avoiding a rubber stamp. We must fight to make Mansfield the town we want it to be. Please,if you see this get in touch, get involved and most importantly get yourself to the polls & ATM in June!
